Winters seems to be the most excited season for the people and why not
it so. Winters makes you feel like plunging upon stuffed food, dry
fruits and hot vegetable soups. The mind gets conjure to think of all
favorite food and attire. But think about the nasty cold and cough which
may ruin your favorite season. Therefore it would be better you take
some mandatory precautions which could be supportive and will make your
immune system highly endurable.
Health in winters
In colder days you need warmth which you can only get through warm and
nutritious food to increase the metabolism rate and give sound heat to
the body. Since this was the talk of past as of now with the days of air
conditioning, central heating and traveling by car to door. Hence this
time we may need this less than in the past, however principles have not
changed.
Today is the time when we have to understand the need of eating
healthy. The processed food available in the market, fried stuff and
fast food is only proving fatal for the human body making it prone to
multiple diseases. So this winter eat healthy and seasonal food.
Vegetables for cold season
- Seasonal winter vegetables are sweet potatoes, pumpkin,
turnips, carrots, parsnips etc. these are some of the important
vegetables rich in vitamins and minerals that helps to strengthen body’s
immune system.
- Ginger and garlic are the other good vegetable to have in cold
winters as it is believed to posses anti-viral and anti-fungal
properties. They are also helpful in keeping cough n cold at bay.
- Green vegetables like beans, broccoli, spinach, radish,
lettuce and fenugreek are good source of calcium and vitamins and good
to have in winters.
Grains of goodness
- Some of the warming winter grains that can be eaten are – oat,
millet, corn or corn flour. These grains are near off warming for this
season that may protect you from the chill waves.
- Wheat is the best so never avoid it and some grains are cooling
so keep the bread at bay though you can have it once in a while.
Things to avoid
- In winters just avoid having dairy products as these products may further make your cold or cough worst.
- Generally dairy products only give rise to mucous formation which will make the cold all the more nasty.
- Eat simple and nutritious food rich in calcium, minerals and vitamins.
- Avoid intake of tea, caffeine and refined salt.
Fruits to be eaten
- Banana is a good source of vitamin B6, fiber, potassium and vitamin C.
- Oranges and Clementine’s are good source of vitamin C, folate and
fiber so do not forget to have these fruits in winters which help you
in boosting up immunity.
- Grapes are sweet and have high nutritional value and a good source of vitamin C.
- Pears and pomegranate are rich in vitamin C and A, and you can add them in salads and fruit chats.
